Geo-Anna Quintanilla Hirshenbaum, PhD

Academic/Professional: I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Texas with over fourteen years of experience in the mental health field. I earned my doctoral degree in psychology from Walden University in 2014. I have been practicing as a clinical psychologist for the last four years primarily conducting psychological evaluations for the geriatric population, children with learning disabilities, ADHD, trauma and emotional distress, Disability and Rehabilitation Services and forensic immigration cases. Prior to working as a psychologist, I practiced as a licensed professional counselor for over 10 years conducting psychological assessments under the supervision of a psychologist and working mainly with children who suffer from behavioral, learning and attentional disorders using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I received my M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Texas Pan American in 2003. Previous to entering the mental health field I was employed as a certified teacher who taught middle school students for five years.

Focus: I offer psychological testing for adults, as well as children. Often, children who are struggling with academic work, social interactions, and emotional regulation have atypical neurological development that can be identified through psychological assessments. This allows for parents, teachers and therapist to provide intervention and accommodations needed to allow each child to reach their potential. Your child’s school, pediatrician or mental health provider may refer you, but a referral is not necessary for testing.

Psychological assessments are often helpful in understanding the strengths and challenges someone may have in their cognitive, behavioral, and emotional functioning. The psychological assessments process allows for diagnostic clarity and individualized recommendations to move forward in pinpointing issues of distress, treatment planning and reaching personal goals. Also, I am a fully proficient in both English and Spanish.

Professional Passion: Overall, my passion in helping individuals work through mental health issues especially with families who have children going through distressing issues and life challenges.

Interest: I enjoy spending time with my family-my husband, daughters and immediate family-, especially watching my two daughters grow, develop and experience life as it come at them. It is all about life experiences and how we use them to become better- and well-rounded individuals. I also love trying new restaurants with my husband, meeting new and interesting people, experiencing different cultures, traveling the world and shopping. Any outdoor activity is always a plus.
